Connecting rods in three-cylinder engines, commonly found in some compact cars, motorcycles, utvs and certain industrial applications, serve the same fundamental purpose as those in other multi-cylinder engines: to convert the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotational motion of the crankshaft. However, due to the unique characteristics and smaller size of three-cylinder engines, the design considerations and materials used in their connecting rods may differ.
